FAQ

Cattle may be consigned in one of three ways, based on how and when they are entered into the sale.

  • Day-of-sale arrivals may be brought to the auction without advance entry. These cattle sell through the auction ring following all catalog and non-catalog consignments.
  • Catalog consignments are entered in advance and appear in the printed sale catalog. These cattle are listed online, promoted ahead of the sale, and sell first on sale day.
  • Non-catalog (boutique) consignments are entered in advance but do not appear in the printed catalog. These cattle are listed on the website, promoted on social media, and sell after the catalog.

We accept Scottish Highland cattle as well as boutique, specialty, and crossbred cattle.

Cattle sell in the following order:

  1. Catalog consignments are auctioned in the following order:
    • AHCA Registered Females
    • AHCA Registered Bulls
    • HHCA Registered Females
    • Unregistered Purebred Females
  2. Pre-Consigned Boutique Cattle
  3. Non-Catalog Consignments
    • This includes all cows that were not registered prior to the event or that arrived on the day of the sale. There are no restrictions on breed, age, or sex of these animals. ALL ARE WELCOME!

The printed catalog includes:

  • Registered and unregistered Scottish Highland cows, heifers and calves
  • Registered AHCA Registered Scottish Highland bulls only. AHCA Bulls are welcome to participate in the non-catalog portion.

Only registered bulls may appear in the catalog.

Yes. Boutique, specialty, and crossbred cattle are accepted as non-catalog consignments or as day-of-sale arrivals, depending on how they are entered.

Yes. All consignments sell through the live auction ring. The difference is how cattle are entered and where they fall in the sale order.

Yes! PLEASE DO! Day-of-sale arrivals are accepted but MUST ARRIVE BEFORE 10 am. These cattle do not appear in the printed catalog or website listings and sell after all advance consignments.

The final day to consign catalog and non-catalog cattle in advance is March 31.

Cattle are delivered to:
Mo-Kan Livestock Market
7133 NE Business 49 Loop
Butler, MO 64730

All catalog cattle must be dropped off on Friday, with drop-off available all day. Non-catalog cattle can be dropped off all day Friday or on Saturday before 10:00 a.m.

Day-of-sale arrivals check in on April 18 before 10am.

All cattle will be inspected by a veterinarian for overall health, age, and bred status. RFID tags will be applied at this time. This process helps ensure cattle are healthy on the day of the sale and that only healthy cattle enter the sale ring.

Catalog bulls that are 18 months of age and older must have a current Breeding Soundness Exam completed within 30 days of the sale. Any bull without a current BSE will be removed from the catalog section of the sale.

We do not accept health certificates because all cattle are examined by our veterinarians on the day of the sale. This allows us to confirm each animal’s current health status at sale time, not based on an earlier evaluation.

Some sales accept health certificates that may have been completed up to 30 days prior. While those certificates may still be valid, an animal’s condition can change during that time. By conducting on-site, day-of-sale inspections, we help ensure that every animal entering the ring is healthy that day.

When you drop off your registered cow, please provide the registration paperwork at that time. After the sale, the registration paperwork will be available in the office for the buyer to pick up.

Yes. The sale is designed to be welcoming to both new and experienced cattle owners. Assistance is available for buyers and sellers with questions before or during the sale.
